7 civilians reported dead in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

Deir ez-Zor, Syria – A t least 7 civilians were killed and dozens were injured on Monday in the city of Deir ez-Zor amid artillery shelling and air strikes by the Syria regime forces.

Fayez Abdul Aziz, civil activist based in Deir ez-Zor, told ARA News that the regime forces (stationed at the military airport in the city) attacked the town of Mohassan with heavy artillery, killing 7 civilian and wounding several others, as similar strike hit the village of al-Mire’iya and al-Bulel town.

“Pro-Assad warplanes launched an air raid with missiles on al-Ummal district in the city of Deir ez-Zor, leading to the injury of a woman,” Abdul Aziz said.

Meanwhile, local sources reported that opposition fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched an attack against headquarters of the pro-Assad military forces in Deir ez-Zor on Monday evening.

Wael al-Dakheel, media activist based in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, told ARA News that FSA fighters, backed by the Islamic Front, bombed the regime forces’ headquarters at the military airport of Deir ez-Zor with heavy mortar.

“The regime-held checkpoint of Jamyan in al-Sina’a neighbourhood was exposed to similar attack by the FSA fighters and the Islamic Brigades,” al-Dakheel said.

These developments coincided with clashes between the FSA and the regime forces in the vicinity of Deir ez-Zor military airport. Two FSA fighters were reported dead.
