ISIL kidnaps civilians north Syria

ARA News

Kobane, Syria− Al-Qaeda splinter group of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) abducted on Sunday evening a vehicle carrying 10 passengers near Tishreen dam on the Euphrates River, while they were heading from Kobane city in northern Syria to Lebanon.

According to local sources, an ISIL checkpoint near the dam stopped the vehicle, checking the passengers’ cell phones before arresting them with the driver −whose first name was Mahmoud.

“The ISIL group released a woman who was among the passengers, while the rest −including the driver− were taken to an unknown destination,” a local source told ARA News

The city of Kobane is since nearly 6 months besieged by members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). All roads leading to surrounding Syrian areas are blocked. However, the ISIL group couldn’t control the city itself, as the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) and the Assayish installed checkpoints and clashed with ISIL fighters to prevent them from entering the Kurdish-populated city of Kobane.
