Amude, Syria– The Assayish forces in Darbasiya city broke up on Thursday a demonstration organized by the Local Committee of the Kurdish National Council (KNC).
The demonstration was meant to protest the attacks carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against Kurdish areas near Kobane and Tel Abyad city.
Immediately after the start of the demonstration, the Assayish forces −security wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD)− stormed the gathering and abducted the audio devices of the KNC’s Local Committee under the pretext that the KNC “hadn’t applied at the Assayish center for a permission to organize the demonstration”.
In this regard, a KNC member stated to ARA News: “The prevention of our demonstration by the PYD-led Assayish forces is wrongful, and the pretext of not having a permission issued by them is unconvincing.”
The Kurdish National Council (KNC) “doesn’t recognize any decisions issued by the PYD-led self-rule administration”, according to the KNC member.
“The self-rule administration (in north and northeastern Syria) and its regulations (issued basically after PYD’s blessing) has been announced unilaterally by the People’s Council of Western Kurdistan. And we also don’t need any permission in order to protest against the aggressions on Kurdish areas,” he commented.
Notably, the Assayish forces demanded activist Sadun al-Sino, the chanter of the demonstration, to accompany them to the Assayish center for interrogation and was released afterwards.
This action came amid calls by the Popular Protection Units (YPG) to the leadership of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraqi Kurdistan to contribute in defending the Kurdish areas near Syria’s Kobane city, while Dr. Abdulhamid Darbandi spoke on behalf of the Presidential Court of KRG expressing their readiness to contribute in the defending on the condition of “a unity of (Syrian) Kurdish forces and the activation of the role of the Kurdish Supreme Committee (which includes the KNC and the People’s Council of Western Kurdistan”.
